My Homework

This is my homework. We had to finish this story about tall tales. This is my part of it.

Dear Replay

Then it was the Seneca’s turn…

The Onondaga and Cayuga hunters gathered around Seneca in anticipation. The young hunter rubbed his chin deep in thought. The Onondaga and Cayuga hunters were getting quite annoyed. They were excited that the Seneca was actually going to tell a tall tale. They knew Seneca was by far the most mature and serious out of them and would never tell a tall tale. They wondered what made this day special. Maybe it’s just that he wants the riffle, they wondered.

“Come on! Ongawana, the women leader of our clan will be worried if I don’t hurry up” said the hunter from the Cayuga tribe.

“I`m thinking, I don’t have the best memory” the Seneca responded

Suddenly the young Seneca’s eyes widen and a small grin appears.

“Once upon a time next to the Seneca tribe’s longest long house there sat fierce one. He was skinning a deer he had recently hunted and was getting tired and weary. He complained throughout the day.

“Work, work, work” he would repeat to himself.

“No time to take even a breather” he mumbled.

Just as he finished the deer, suddenly another one appeared replacing the old one. The young hunter was startled and slowly began to get up as a sign of fear. Then suddenly, the old deer was back. He stared at it, with a confused expression on his face. When he began to sit down again the undead dear came back. Not only was the hunter confused that the live dear just stood there waiting to be killed but also was scared that his laziness might have gotten him into this situation. He shot the dear, and began skinning it. This time the dear remained in its place but another one appeared. This time it came with a few cobs of corn. He killed it too and skinned it. As soon as he finished yet another one appeared, this one with a pile of corn, squash and other kinds of vegetables and fruit. Fierce one was delighted he now had 3 dears and a week’s worth of crops for everyone in the longhouse but he was also curious if this cycle just happened to go on and on. He was not amused when he skinned the new deer and another one appeared. He had to go to the evil spirit frightening today and he had made the perfect mask to scare away the evil spirits. As soon as he said that, the deer that had recently appeared, disappeared. A smile stretched across his face and he got up to collect the deer and crops.

When he displayed the food he got, there were a series of “oohs” and “ahhs”. The Seneca was about to tell his clan that he actually didn’t hunt all this but as soon as he began, the clan leader approached him.

“You have shown that you deserve to join the men in hunting. “ The clan leader said.

Fierce one was not only pleased but guilty. The first dear he skinned was merely his brother`s, and the rest of the dears and crops appeared as if by magic. He lived with the guilt for 2 long weeks until one day he went out with the men. He found another dear standing there eating one of the clan`s corn. Even though it was not his own, he felt he had to do something. He wanted to shoot the dear but ran out of bullets, so he tried his fate at throwing a rock. The rock barely touched the deer and it fell down. One of the men saw him and gasped. As soon as fierce one saw him he confessed to not only him but to the whole clan. They all just stood there staring at the floor. When he looked down, he saw the he was surrounded by dozens of deer. Just as the clan leader began to speak, fierce one awoke with a deer in front of him. Immediately he began skinning it

“What a dream” He whispered to himself.

Seneca broke out laughing.

“Maybe my tall tale will teach you that instead of telling tall tales we should be working.”

The other hunters just shrugged, said goodbye, and went back to their clans.
